This month our photographer Bernie captured some great interviews and video footage of Therapeutic Riding instructors who came all the way from Michigan to share their expertise with the His Wings’ Horse program. If you’ve ever wondered how horses help kids with special needs, this is your chance to see and hear.

8 Theraputic Riding Instructors

We were blessed to have Dr. Beth Macauley bring 8 theraputic riding instructors including: Kayla Tuinenga, Mia Diekevers, Melissa Conner, Sabine Martinez, Julia VandeWaa, Tess Timmer, Beth’s husband Shawn Macauley as well as Dr. Kiri Sunde.

Dr. Beth Macauley

Dr. Macauley is a speech therapist who uses horse therapy as a tool to treat speech disorders in Michigan where she also works as a university professor for speech therapy students. She led the group and did an excellent job of explaining why horses are used for kids with special needs and how they help.

Julia VandeWaa

At 18 Julia VandeWaa was the youngest Renew Instructor to join the group. She also speaks fluent Spanish.

Tess Timmer

Tess Timmer came to the united states at the age of 9 when she was adopted from Ukraine and received therapy from the horses as a child. 

Dr. Kiri Sunde

Dr. Sunde is a pediatrician with a specialty in genetics!  She saw many of our kids to help diagnose them and helped us formulate treatment plans for each going forward. She had many consultations with the kids and their mom and answered many of their questions and calmed many of their fears. 
 
Several of our kids were sick and she was able to tell us what antibiotics they needed.  She also volunteers at Renew Center and is working toward getting her certificate as a therapeutic riding instructor.

Join Our Prayer Warriors

We had a meaningful first prayer warrior get together in June. Participants learned more about what’s happening behind the scenes at the ranch. We prayed for kids and families in the process of being healed. 

We would love to have you join us for the next one. Marlena Sprague will be hosting remotely via Zoom. Next meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 3rd at 7 pm. (Pacific Time)

Inspired by what we do?

You are invited to partner with us whether that be financially or by coming down to build and repair, or perhaps work with the horses or offer services to the kids. We always have a need for educators, therapists and medical providers. You can email Sue at the address in the footer of this page.
