His Wings Ranch is very resourceful. A little financial support goes a lone way. We uses volunteer labor and donated supplies to meet a huge portion of our needs. This means money received is leveraged to make a huge impact. For example, donated funds to buy a gallon of paint are matched by a donated structure to paint and volunteer labor to paint it. Here’s where your support goes:
Your donation helps facilitate therapy for the kids through student volunteers from U.S. college therapy programs. It also pay for local therapists as well as equipment and facilities to serve 85 kids with a wide ranch of emotional and physical needs. This includes Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Behavioral Specialist, Speech Pathologists and Orthotists to fit leg braces. As a licensed physical Therapist Sue is qualified to treat the kids directly as well as train other therapists.
Donations pay for parts and accessories for wheelchairs, walkers and braces. Much of our base supply is donated but they need to be modified and adjusted so that kids can simply navigate the Mexican dirt roads to connect with others in their community. Because they are growing kids they outgrow their chairs and braces. We have responded by creating an entire wheelchair workshop dedicated to customization and repair. Like a shoe store, we need to increase our chair size availability. We also need to be able to repair and adapt chairs on the fly. Your donations help pay for repair parts like new wheels and pads as well as a wider selection of leg braces.
Donations pay for medicine and regular medical services associated with diseases such as Spina Bifida, Cerebral Palsy and Down Syndrome. This can mean kidney dialysis 3 days a week and full time caregivers for our most vulnerable. His Wings Ranch helps parents apply for life changing surgery grants through non-profit groups like Shriner’s hospitals as well as “Fresh Start Surgical Gifts” so the kids can get medical solutions in the US without cost.
Donation pay for food, blankets and housing as well as our community youth center and playground. Keeping families with special needs kids together is our calling. We help parents to take care of their own children by helping establish basic housing, providing blankets and food and supplies and coordinating daycare so parents can work.
Your donations help purchase school supplies from pens, paper, and crafts to tables and chairs. It is also used to pay for local special education teachers who are willing to teach the kids for a fraction of the cost of a teacher in the US. Special needs kids in Mexico are essentially unserved in the public school system. The newly formed special needs classrooms at His Wings Ranch are the only option for local kids with these needs.
Partners Leveraging Your Donation
Do You Have Items To Donate?
Thank you so much for thinking of His Wings Ranch when it comes to donating used items to the ministry. There are a number of specific items we would appreciate receiving that would directly impact the children we serve. Things like wheelchairs, walkers and braces can’t be obtained easily obtained in Mexico and would be welcomed. More on what we could use below.
One of the challenges we face is bringing items across the border. To do so requires a formal declaration to the Mexican government weeks before we transport the items at which time we may also have to pay an import tax. This is a cost of serving the kids which we pay to transport specific items of need across the border.
On a practical level this means that miscellaneous items you may set aside for the thrift store may not be a fit for us. Things like clothing, old toys and sporting equipment may best reach a charitable user through large thrift stores like The Salvation Army.
That said you may have some horse equipment, special needs chairs and desks, wheelchairs and braces, specific medical supplies, bulk supplies of family assistance items like blankets, classroom staples like printer paper or other items you think may be useful.
