His Wings Ranch

Making Great Progress For the Kids

A picture is worth a thousand words

Supporters have been asking “How does His Wings Ranch get such amazing photos that capture the people, purpose and action at the ranch?”  We would like to call out the outstanding photography of our local photographer Bernardo Salada Alba. We have been blessed to have him share his gift of photography with all of you.
He is able to capture the beauty and grace of the people, place and work of God here at His Wings Ranch not to mention the dramatic sky and expansive landscape.
Candid shots like these  make you feel like you’re in the thick of the action.

Bernie drives to the ranch every Saturday morning and on special events sometimes fjording muddy roads to make it to photograph the kids.

We asked Bernie why he offers his time and talents to help Sue. Here is what he said.

“After a single visit to the ranch 5 years ago I was all in after having witnessed Susan and Johnny living the real missionary life, helping the poor, comforting the less fortunate, and healing the disabled. I have seen kids who could not walk: walk. Kids who could not talk: talk. I saw her passion for disabled children and how horse therapy truly helped the kids.

I was raised on a ranch, and my father used to break/train horses when I was a kid. So this was right up my alley, as if this ministry was custom-made for my passion as a photojournalist by trade.”

We want to take a moment to thank God for inspiring Bernie to share his talent and craft with you all.

Thank you Bernie!

Looking for Partners

People like Bernie make His Wings Ranch successful. We are a volunteer organization that truly operates based on collaboration. We don’t have paid coordinators or professional fundraisers, just regular people like you.  Those involved choose to give their time, talent and finances to assist. (Including the website and newsletters – all volunteered).  They have felt inspired to help by witnessing both the kids needs and Sue and Johnny’s response and success.

As an example, portable classrooms were donated by Horizon Church and then the material to refurbish them was donated by  Serving Hands International. More volunteers drove down to paint and repair them as well as build wheelchair ramps to access each building.

When you give financially or through your time know that you are truly partnering with other individuals just like you who multiply your support with their own.  His Wings Ranch is truly an inspiring organization with a heart of gold making a tremendous difference to the lives of kids right where it is needed most through regular people just like you.

Join us with an email or call to Sue or become a financial partner.

Grateful for Clear Vision

Seeing clearly for the first time.  That’s the experience Angel had when he looked through corrective lenses to see his doctor Whitney Hardeman in focus for the first time.  Just when you thought His Wings Ranch was doing plenty of miracles with physically disabled kids and those with developmental delays we’re here to tell you that we also help kids to see.

Close your eyes for a minute and try to figure out where you are in space and what is around you. If you’re like most people you’ll feel lost and disoriented. We forget how blessed we are to be able to see clearly whenever we want without effort. Sometimes a special pair of corrective glasses is all it takes to restore vision to kids who’ve never had it before.

Your Support Brought 31 Azusa Pacific Student Nurses

Clear vision is just one example of the medical assistance we provide for kids and one of the Six paths to hope we support at the ranch. When it comes to medical assistance we were fortunate to have been visited recently by Azusa Pacific University who brought 31 volunteers to the ranch to offer nursing services.

They transformed our community portable into a medical clinic.

The students were very attentive and thorough in their assessment of their patients often working in collaborative teams.

They worked both inside the portable classroom and outside on the news basketball court

The result is not just a happy Andrea but a happy Adan as well.

Students from Azusa Pacific had a chance to enjoy the tetter-totter on a beautiful spring day.

One more gift arrived in the form of a delivery of “Negative Pressure Treatments” and other medical equipment from the US side of the border with the assistance of the Mayor of Ensenada. These “Negative Pressure Treatments” had been held up for months which was a shame because they help treat chronic pressure sore wounds like those Valentina was suffering from before being treated in the United States in the fall prior to her tragic accident in January. Having these types of medical treatments on hand enables Sue to offer ways to treat wounds early so that kids don’t find themselves needing more complicated treatments later. Excess medical supplies were donated by His Wings Ranch to the Ensenada Hospital whose staff was very appreciative.

Baby Horse Photos

We couldn’t resist. Few things are cuter than our brand new 1 day old filly! This is the third horse born on the ranch.  We’ve included a photo slide show which includes the little one spending time with her mom and her canine older brother Canelo, a Belgian Shepherd.
