Making Great Progress For the Kids

Planting Roots

In Mexico being a mothers of a special needs child can be isolating and lonely. Yet these women are often the only parent in their child’s life. As single parents moms are overwhelmed with the task of taking care of their children and providing for them often without a break to figure out how to be more effective. His Wings Ranch is offering support for them by facilitating community building activities so they can meet and connect with other women in the same situation. On a Saturday morning Sonja Heintz drove down from San Diego to prepare and lead a day of crafts in the new community room.
20 moms created artistic pot designs and then planted a gifted cactus as a symbol of their connection to His Wings Ranch and to one another. This community event is the second new offering held at His Wings Ranch in the past two months to support families. The first is the autism solutions speaker series that was also held in the community room.

While the moms spend time together, their kids are busy enjoying the community playground and basketball court with supervision from His Wings staff, giving the mom’s a chance to learn new ways to help their children and connect with one another for moral support.

This craft day and child care arrangement enhances the His Wings family assistance program already in place where families receive regular food and supply packages as well as assistance with accommodations through connecting with local charity home builders.
Of course family assistane is just 1 of the 6 ways His Wings brings hope to special needs kids. In addition to family assistance, His Wings provides:
- Physical Therapy,
- Horse Therapy,
- Outfitting kids with Wheelchairs and Braces,
- Offering Special Education classes and
- Providing medical assistance.
The result is a thankful and hopeful group of mom’s provided with the assistance they need to take care of their special ones.

Dog Riding Horse?
You don’t see this everyday unless you are at His Wings Ranch. Jaciel’s Belgian Shepherd Canelo actually chose to ride Saphira the horse. Jaciel had the horse standing next to the raised access ramp where the kids can mount easily. He invited Canelo to join him on Saphira’s back. Canelo was already 4 feet off the ground and stepped onto Sadie’s back and then did his best Scooby Doo impression. Pretty convincing.
He liked it so much that he now mounts the horse directly from the ground with a single high jump. Jaciel is convinced that Canelo thinks he’s either a horse or a human after spending so much time with them both. After waiting his turn for months he finally gets to ride the horse!
