Making Great Progress For the Kids

Hurricane of Help

Azusa Pacific Brings 26 people to Help

Azusa Pacific – Passed through HIs Wings Ranch like a hurricane providing medical help for 60 children, babies and parents. Their group of 26 volunteers with backgrounds in nursing, public health, and dental hygiene provided health assessments on all ages, examinations for any medical complaints and treatments when possible (Dr. Ema brought medications), vision screening, ear exam s and cleaning, dental health screening, de-licing and haircuts and children’s activities and games including the outdoor game above centered on taking care of one’s teeth!

While we pray that the many children grow and develop without incident, when health starts to go sideways having a record of basic screening data like even as basic as height and weight give medical providers the information they need to determine whether medical interventions are needed. _____ and ____ are shown here providing a health assessment for ________.

You would be amazed at the number of kids in the classroom who seem to be quite delayed in their learning only to discover that they have a vision challenge that can be quickly resolved with glasses.  _______ providing a vision screening for ________

Marisol has taken good care of her teeth and passed her dental screening from ___________. Other children are not so fortunate some having abscesses from unresolved cavities in their teeth and gum infections.

Two smiling girls after an oral screening from  _______ and _______. They are developing good habits to take care of their teeth for a lifetime.

Haircuts seem so simple and yet can be complicated by a lack of resources as well as hair lice. Volunteers take care of both on site at His Wings Ranch leaving kids with clean hair and stylish hairdoos.  _______________.

________ and _________ and __________ acting as screening administrators

All made possible through the coordination of Koy Parida, Nursing & Public Health Professor and International Health Coordinator for Azusa Pacific. She and her group visited 8 sites and helped 250 to 300 kids on their two day visit.

Concrete and Fingernails

Yes those are painted nails, not metal nails. These young ladies came to pour a concrete foundation! They are from “El Refugio”, a girls and women’s orphanage located in Chapultepec just a few miles north of the ranch.

Elena fills up another load of concrete as part of the concrete slab pour.

Opening up bags is a messy business. To keep things moving smoothly Kayla is preparing multiple bags

The tricky thing with concrete is getting it all to set at the same time. That means moving fast and setting up sections while they are still wet.

Randy Huebert, (on the left) is the director of “El Refugio” posing here with _______. Diego’s step-father who will be livigng in the house.

Families like Diego’s who live hear His Wings Ranch (in teh background) are positioned to help one another with childcare and community.

Point Loma University Visits

Cambria Hunter and her husband Bob came down with 3 students from Point Loma University. You may have heard Cambria’s name before because she has also brought down students from other universities including Huntington University in June of this year. They are not only fantastic with the kids but create their own video after they complete their time!

Two New Horses

When it rains it pours. Not just one but two horses were donated to His Wings this last week. They look identical on first glance but  Luna has the black mane and Hurley has the light brown mane.  Both will be great therapy horses with Hurley taking the lead with Jaciel already training him. They were donated by Missionary couple DJ and Lynette Schuetze who live just an hour away from His Wings. They will bridge the gap between our existing therapy horses Chonita and Saphira and the up an coming little horses born at the ranch in the last 2 years Sadie, Nala and Brooklyn. They are being trained up but it will still be a number of years until they are ready.

Nearly a dozen people from the dinner let us know they would like to pray for Sue and His Wings Ranch on a regular basis. One idea suggested is a monthly prayer group that meets via Zoom. The leader would run the group and coordinate with Sue regarding the needs at the ranch. If you’d like to lead the group let me know. Or if you’d like to join the group let me know that too. I can be reached at [email protected]
